Environmental zealots block Norway's largest refinery
Environmental activists blocked Norway's largest oil refinery, demanding an immediate end to fossil fuel production.
More than 200 climate protesters from Extinction Rebellion gathered at the Mongstad refinery near Bergen on Monday, August 18.
Footage shows demonstrators obstructing the road, with some lying on the ground. Others were seen using kayaks to block access to the port entrance.
The protest was part of the Nordic Climate Justice Coalition, which is staging actions across Norway from August 16 to 23. The group claims it wants to challenge the image of Nordic countries as climate leaders, while protesting Norway's continued investment in oil and gas.
Swedish climate and political activist Greta Thunberg said: 'We are here because it is clear oil has no future. Fossil fuels bring only death and destruction, and we must pressure morally corrupt producers like Norway, who have blood on their hands.'
The Mongstad refinery is operated by Equinor, a Norwegian energy company that is majority-owned by the Norwegian government.
Norway, which is Western Europe's largest oil and gas producer, has drawn regular criticism from climate activists who say the country's fossil fuel exports are incompatible with its green image.
However, followers of the climate agenda have resorted to increasingly aggressive public attacks in recent years, often verging on climate terrorism, by using violence and intimidation to cause chaos on roads, at events and in art galleries.
The Oxford Languages dictionary defines a terrorist as 'a person who uses unlawful violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims'.
