This is the shocking moment a pet dog was forced to pull a tuk-tuk with six Thai models crammed inside.

The pooch was taking part in the ''disgusting'' stunt slammed by animal rights groups at an event in Prachuab Khiri Khan, Western Thailand on November 17.

Footage shows how six Thai 'pretties', or models, plus the organiser piled into the three-wheeler as a driver sat in the front. There were eight people on board.

The pit bull, named Lucky, was then strapped into a harness connected to the tuk-tuk before being forced to drag the vehicle along the ground.

Lucky was visibly struggling with the task, sweating and shaking while pulling the 350kg car. With the eight people inside, the weight could have been as much as a tonne.

Shockingly, crowds laughed as Lucky went through the ordeal, which was followed by a second dog, a black American bully named Mustang, pulling an empty tuk-tuk.

The competition also included a challenge in which the exhausted dogs had to run and jump to bite food hanging 10ft above the ground and then pull blocks of concrete.

Animal Rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) slammed the event and called on the Thai government to strengthen its laws against animal cruelty.

PETA Asia representative Nirali Shah said: ''Dogs are not tow trucks, and it's inconceivable that 'man's best friend' would be forced to pull a tuk-tuk full of people several times the animal's size and weight, amongst other heavy loads, all for the sake of a cheap laugh.

''The dogs used for these spectacles are treated as property, not like the living, feeling beings with complex emotions we all know they really are. The dogs are clearly suffering, which is why it's even more disgusting the crowds are cheering.

''This startling footage is another reason why Thailand needs to strengthen its most basic animal welfare standards – and a reminder for all of us who can't fathom this abuse to stay away from horse-drawn carriages, circuses, and zoos, because all animals suffer when used for entertainment.''

Nirali said the case was ''not something we come across regularly'' and suggested that the dogs are re-homed.

She added: ''A few years ago, an awful video went viral of a man beating a dog to force him to cart him around on the street in China. We managed to track down the man, rescue the dog from him, and adopt the animal out to a loving family.''
