Margaret Keenan, 90, has become the first person in the world to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday (December 8).

The UK is the first western nation to begin a coronavirus vaccine drive, with the country aiming to vaccinate more than 20 million citizens in just a few months.

Here Londoners in the capital's famed Carnaby Street in the West End are asked the question, "Would you take the coronavirus vaccine?" with opinion divided as to whether they would.

One Londoner said: "If the vaccine helps us get back to a normal way of life, I think that's a good thing for society and a good thing for the economy so yes I would take it."

Another man explained: "Would I be happy to take the new coronavirus vaccine? Definitely! The amount of people they've had on it and the quality of the different companies that have done it, I think it's essential that everybody should."

One sceptic said: "I'm in two minds about it. They say to monitor the effects of the vaccine takes years and they've somehow come into a brand new virus and made a vaccine in less than 12 months and they're already rolling it out to people.

"There's no way they've had time to see any potential future problems with the vaccine. For me right now I wouldn't take it, I want to wait at least 12 months and see what the overall outcome is and then maybe take it."

These street interviews were conducted on December 4.
