A farmer from central India claims to have increased production by more than 20 per cent by playing music to his animals and even his crops.

Akash Chaurasia has set up speakers throughout his 12-acre property in the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh to amplify the soothing tones of a sacred Hindu mantra.

Chaurasia claims to have harvested 20 per cent more from his crops since beginning the "music therapy" while the cows, he says, are now producing an additional 1.5 litres of milk each per day.

According to Chaurasia, even the earthworms have upped their game and are now composting waste in 60 days rather than 90.

The farmer says the technique works because music reduces stress in all living organisms.

A farmer belonging to central India's Madhya Pradesh has increased the production from his farmland by over 20 per cent using music therapy for his crops and cattle. 12 acres of his land is situated in Sagar district's Tilli area.

Visuals show the farmer Akash Chaurasia taking care of his crops. Speakers can be seen set up for his crops to play soothing music on. While feeding his livestock, he can be seen making them hear the 'Gayatri Mantra' , a sacred chant in Hinduism.

Chaurasia realised an increase of 20 per cent with his crop production, while the cows began producing more than one-and-a-half litres worth of milk due to the same music therapy. On the other hand, earthworms turned remains into compost in a record time of 60 days as opposed to a normal span of 90 days.

Chaurasia believes music therapy is an excellent method to reduce stress amongst many living organisms. The way music affects humans and calms them down, it is believed that the same sound waves can also have a positive impact on other living organisms.

Dr Ajay Shankar Mishra, Former Botanist at the Central University of Sagar stated that a 120-year-old theory by JC Bose is proof that the plants are sensitive and react positively to classical music.

Sir Jagdish Chandra Bose, a scientist widely acknowledged as the father of modern Indian science described his experiments with plants and their results in his 1902 paper, ”Responses in the Living and Non-Living”. He wrote how plants grew more quickly when exposed to nice music and gentle whispers, and poorly when exposed to harsh music and loud speech. He even mentioned how plants became depressed when exposed to polluted air and darkening skies.

In short, his work showed that plants could feel pleasure and they could feel pain.
