This is the amusing moment a shy baby elephant hid behind a narrow tree trunk after being disturbed in Thailand.

Nong Samet and his wife went to Khao Yai National Park for a night trip when they passed by the baby jumbo on November 29.

They slowed down to avoid startling the wild animal until their vehicle's headlights flashed on it.

However, the shy little creature tried its best to hide from the park visitors using a narrow tree as cover.

Footage shows the car driving slowly along the road when the elephant noticed them before it inched behind the tree to hide.

The couple was laughing inside the car with amusement as the cute elephant slowly disappeared from their view in Nakhon Ratchasima province.

As the recording went on, Non Samet exclaimed to the clueless jumbo: "Where are you, I can't see you at all little elephant."

He added: "That little guy really thought he was small enough to hide behind a tree as thin as that. So cute."

An estimated 2,000 elephants are living in the wild in Thailand and a similar number in captivity. In the wild, they roam through deep jungle and in the country's protected national parks.
