The Indian Air Force and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have teamed up to battle a wildfire burning in a valley near Mount Iso, Manipur.

Clouds of smoke are seen rising up above the valley as helicopters scoop up water to try and douse the flames on January 4.

A total of 24,000 litres of water has been dropped on the blaze as firefighters battle to control the wildfire.

According to local reports, one member of the NDRF was found dead in his tent. The cause of his death is uncertain.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and an Indian Air Force (IAF) team continue to fight a massive wildfire that broke out in northeastern India's Manipur. The incident took place in the Mount Iso, Manipur at the hill ranges of Manipur-Nagaland border.

Visuals shot on January 4 witnessing the incident feature the massive wildfire. Clouds of gray smoke arise from the mountains as entire sections of vegetation reduce to ashes. Low flames engulf the greens while the whole region gets enveloped in smoke. The fire keeps abruptly rising from the area while the chopper proceeds to prepare to get the situation under control. Helicopters are used to carry large amounts of water to the affected area to douse the fire.  

More than 60 personnel of the NDRF team were deployed to extinguish the wildfire in the Dzukou range. The authorities stationed an Indian Air Force Mi-17 V5 helicopter for this mission in the region, along with a C-130J Hercules aircraft.

A total of 24,000 liters of water was dropped as part of the fire fighting exercise on Monday. Indian Air Force helicopters were used for drizzling the water. However, the fire has been raging in the region for over a week and has destroyed vegetation on Manipur's peaks, and is spreading towards the Yangkhullen area of the Senapati district.
