36 vulnerable Rohingya refugees transferred to new shelter in Indonesia

Refugee Rohingya women and children in Indonesia were moved to a new shelter on March 26 after arriving for relocation from another region of Indonesia.

After living in Aceh province for more than six months, 36 Rohingya-Myanmar refugees, out of 92 Rohingya refugees who were stranded in 2020, were relocated as a vulnerable group to Medan, North Sumatra.

This included refugee children without parents, mothers who are pregnant, mothers who do not have husbands, sufferers of chronic diseases, and women who are vulnerable to gender-based violence. T

With these arrivals, 1,776 refugees from various countries have been accommodated in Medan.

The head of the Medan Immigration Detention Center, Vencentius Purwo Hendratmoko said in an interview. "So this morning, there is currently a transfer from Lhokseumawe to Medan City related to the handling of refugees from abroad, especially the Rohingya ethnicity, there are 36 people who are categorized as vulnerable refugees. Vulnerable means unaccompanied children. women who are said to be vulnerable too.

"In this transfer, it has gone through health protocols, as well as from the health workers and has carried out a swab test in Lhokseumawe", he continued.
