Footage shows the eerily quiet scenes in Bangkok, Thailand, today (May 6) as Covid-19 continues to impact on the country’s tourism industry.

The area around Chinatown in the centre of the capital would normally be packed with cars and tens of thousands of holidaymakers from neighbouring China.

However, popular attractions such as the ‘Giant Swing’ which was built in 1784 and the Siam Paragon shopping mall were unusually quiet.

Ministers had been gradually reopening the country’s tourist industry but a fresh outbreak of cases last month has lead to sweeping closures of business and restrictions on movement.

Thailand recorded 1,911 new Covid-19 cases today and 18 deaths, taking the total number of infections recording since the pandemic began to 76,811 with 336 dead.
