Firm Offers Free Oxygen For Covid Patients in Nairobi, Kenya

Devki Steel Mills a Kenyan steel mill has pledged to donate Sh100 million worth of oxygen to public hospitals amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The steel company owned by billionaire Narendra Raval said in a letter to the Ministry of Health that the donations will be available for collection from their Mombasa, Athi-River and Ruiru plants. They had thought Sh 100 million worth of oxygen would be enough to help Covid-19 patients, but with the third wave hitting the country hard, saw the need to scale up the donations.
He said since the announcement that the company will be giving oxygen to hospitals for free, the company gives out Sh3 million worth of oxygen each day, with orders coming from almost all the 47 county governments.
This comes as Kenya has tested a sample size of 4,436 tested in the last 24 hours, and recorded 267 new Covid-19 cases with a positivity rate of 6.0%.This now brings the total number of positive cases to 165,379, and the cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,741,604. The country has lost 25 patients to the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 3,001.
A total of 1,030 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,813 patients are on home based isolation and care.
