A woman saved a chubby monitor lizard stuck under a hole in her back garden.

Pranom Treesomphong, 49, saw the lizard climbing the wall next to her house in Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya, central Thailand.

She let it wander around but her dogs scared the animal, which then ran into a hole under her house while trying to find a space to hide.

However, the hole was deep and it was trapped so the house owner had to call animal rescuers who spent half an hour pulling the lizard out before it was released it back to nature.

Pranom said: ‘It came in the morning and I let it stay until it pleased and climbed out the way it came. However, my dogs found it and tried to attack it in the evening.

‘It attempted to climb the wall but the dogs constantly bit it. So it ran into a hole that was dug for installing a sewer but it was stuck because it’s too fat.’
