This blind koala and her baby were rescued and nursed back to health after they were found wandering on the side of the road.

Passers-by spotted mother and baby disoriented in the village of Woodenbong in New South Wales, Australia and called for rescuers before it was too late.

The mother, named Venus, was completely blind from chlamydia and had significant trauma in one eye, but was still caring for her five-month-old joey, Cupid.

Superintendent vet Jackie Reed said: "Without her sight, Venus was incredibly disorientated and vulnerable on the ground.

“If we hadn't rescued her, she would have died from either a dog attack, car hit or eventual starvation.

"We are so thankful to the member of the public, who knew to call our rescue hotline."
