An electric transformer that killed several monkeys in Ahmedabad over the last three years has finally been removed.

The transformer in the Bapunagar (Hirawadi) area was responsible for causing injury to 22 monkeys out of which 18 died on the spot.

Four monkeys were sent to Ahmedabad Forest Department for treatment by the Rescue Foundation team.

Bhaveshbhai Patel and Maheshbhai Patel of Rescue Foundation had filed applications and campaigned for the removal of the transformer to various authorities to avoid the frequent deaths of monkeys.

The city officials finally removed the transformer on June 11 and replaced it with a new underground line. The Rescue Foundation thanks the concerned officials for their humane action.
