A herd of elephants in India had a lucky escape when an electricity transformer exploded as they passed.

The five elephants were being chased away from the Periyanaickenpalayam neighborhood of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu state.

Right after passing a transformer, it exploded, possibly as a result of their contact with a cable hanging from the transformer moments before.

All five, which included a calf, ran into the jungle after the incident.

Forest department officials had begun chasing the elephants after villagers alerted them at around 4am.

It was lucky day for herd of 5 elephants on 16th November early morning when they have a miraculous escape from a exploding transformer in Coimbatore periyanaiken palayam area . On 16th November a herd of five elephants,which includes a calf touched a wire hanging from a transformer while chasing way by forest department on the outskirts . As soon as they crossed the transformer it was seen exploded . Forest department officials were chasing elephant after an alert from villagers of herd at their farmland around 4 AM in morning . After the explosion the elephants ran into jungles .
