Students from a village in southern India are forced to climb trees every day just to access online learning.

The 40 or so residents of Perapancholai and Periay Kombai in Tamil Nadu can't get a data signal on the ground and so haul themselves into the branches of a banyan tree so they can connect.

Aside from lunch or when nature calls, the students spend from 9 until 4 pm every day in the trees.

According to local media, the students' parents want local authorities to improve the connection so that their offspring don't need to risk life and limb just to get an education.

Students of this tribal hamlet Perapancholai and Periya kombai climb on trees to get access to the online classes by risking their lives



Perapancholai and Periya kombai are the villages that are located in the foothills of Kollimalai in Namakkal district of Tamilnadu. In these two villages there are about 40 students who prepare for tenth and twelfth board exams. These students attend the online classes only on the tree top. A group of students found a big banyan tree and started to climb by putting their mobiles in their pockets and holding the books in their mouths. They started to find a comfortable branch and this will be their classroom till 4:00pm. They will get down for lunch or for nature’s call. Or else the banyan tree will be their classroom from 9:00am till 4:00 pm.



These tribal villages dont have any mobile phone towers and the nearby tower is 8 kilometers away from these villagers. Students in order to get signal they need to climb tree top and so they can get at least a minimum frequency range. The parents of these students are getting worst fears as these students climb up the trees risking their lives to get education
