A wild elephant nicknamed “Baahubali” triggered panic in Tamil Nadu’s Mettupalayam on Saturday night after being accidentally hit by a forest department patrol vehicle inside the Forest College and Research Institute campus.

Forest officials had rushed to the spot after the elephant strayed into the campus from the nearby forest. They attempted to drive it back using vehicle sirens, but as the elephant charged toward the patrol vehicle, the driver swerved to avoid it. In the process, one of the jeep’s tyres reportedly struck the animal’s leg.

Enraged, the elephant trumpeted loudly and moved around the area before retreating into the forest. No injuries to people were reported.
