The Indonesian government has allowed schools to open face-to-face learning beginning January 4. Implementation of health protocols is mandatory when face-to-face learning takes place. In accordance with health protocols and instructions from the local Education Office, children are required to wear masks.

In addition, before entering the classroom, students are also required to wash their hands and pass a temperature check.

If they don't pass the temperature threshold, the student is asked to return home. Study time at school is also shortened without a break.

Arni, one of the primary school principals, said that face-to-face sessions were conducted using a shift system. Only half of students come to school, while the rest are still learning online at home. They will take turns at school. The face-to-face school policy is still in the pilot phase until February. If no new cases are found, it will be continued again.

Deputy Mayor of Padang Hendri Septa said: "Children come to school wearing masks, wash their hands and adjust their distance. Alhamdulillah, so far it is going well. We will continue to do face-to-face learning because we must continue to live side by side with COVID."
