Rainbow Lorikeets (Trichoglossus moluccanus) are nectar- and fruit-eating parrots native to eastern Australia but are feral birds in southern Western Australia. Their numbers have exploded on the Swan Coastal Plain since the late 1960s, and they are now a common sight around Perth, and they compete for nesting hollows with native parrots and cockatoos. This Rainbow Lorikeet perched in an Almond tree in our back yard in Perth, then moved to nibble a bud, superbly lit in the morning sun.
