Engineers bought a new basketball court and hoop for a boy they found playing the game with a homemade net - made of a bottomless bucket on a stick.

Technicians fsaw the nine-year-old while out on a job in El Paso, Texas, and were touched by his determination.

He was scoring baskets into a plastic bucket attached to a piece of plywood he'd made himself in the rural community of Montana Vista.

AT&T manager of network services James Ryan approved his staff's request and they purchased him a new hoop and basketball to play with.

They even went to his home on their day off to install a concrete slab so he no longer had to play on the dirt.

James said: "He had no clue when we pulled up. We kind of took it out there and knocked on his door and said 'here you go'.

"He was very excited. The look on his face was absolutely priceless.

"It's been tremendous. I've coached soccer since I was 21 and played collegiately, so I love giving back to the community with sports."

The video was filmed in July 2021.
