Kind locals saved a pit bull terrier that fell in a sewer after a tropical storm in Thailand.

Villagers spotted the pet pit bull terrier trapped under the village’s drainage pipe in Prachin Buri province on September 24 after a storm.

It was one of their neighbour’s pet that reportedly wandered out of the house after the extreme weather and was stuck inside the narrow hole.

While waiting for the rescue team to arrive, the locals fed the eight-year-old dog and calmed it down while it was trapped.

Village official Somyot Asa said: ‘I saw people crowding over the pipe to help the pitbull. The dog remained calm and even followed me around after being rescued.’

When they noticed that the pooch was not violent they dropped the rope and tied the male pooch’s upper body with it.

The dog was then brought up to the ground successfully with no injuries before the rescue team arrived and was returned to its owner.

Somyot asked around and later found that the pit bull with brown spots was owned by a man who ran a noodle stall nearby and had been searching for the pooch.

Pet owner Teerayut Saetan said: ‘I was shocked that my dog Tigger was trapped in a pipe all this while. I thought he was just playing outside. I would like to thank the villagers for rescuing him.’

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods which cause rivers to flow faster and become dangerous.
