Students of the Industrial Training Institute in Berhampur, India, have built a huge robot statue entirely made out of electronic waste.

The 30-feet high and 3-ton heavy ‘ROBO’ has been made from things like electronic toys, screens, mobile phones, computers, keyboards, old TVs and CD players and many more old electronic devices.

The footage from November 4 shows the towering statue, staring down with grim, menacing eyes.

The goal of the student project is to raise awareness of environmental protection and the need for proper management of e-waste.

The Odisha Government run Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Berhampur has developed a unique Robot out of electronic wastes to spread awareness among the people for environmental protection and proper management of e-waste.

The 30’ ft height and 3 ton ‘ROBO’ made out of e-waste is said to be the one of the tallest E-waste sculptures in the country.

The unique sculpture has been fabricated and designed by the trainees from Electrician, Electronics and Painter trade of the ITI, Berhampur.

The ITI trainees have used e-waste such as electronic toys, PCB, printer, printer cartridge, RAM, keyboard, mouse, monitor, mobile, CD player, TV and VCR to design the Robo. These e wastes are collected from Berhampur city.

Through this sculpture, the ITI Berhampur students appeal to the people to to reconnect with Mother Earth by being responsible in scientific management of e-waste.

Dr. Rajat Kumar Panigrahy, Principal, ITI, Berhampur have congratulated the students for their creative work.

In current digital era, the e-waste generation is very high. E-waste comprises many toxic elements, including copper, liquid crystal, lithium, mercury, nickel, selenium, arsenic, and barium, among others. When it is not properly managed, the risks of e-waste polluting the surrounding air and water are significantly high.

As per the Waste Management Rules, 2016, the e-waste should be scientifically stored and dismantled as their unscientific management leads to pollution and various environmental hazards.
