Students in West Sumatra show machine that processes plastic waste into fuel
A group of students from a high school succeeded in refining fuel from plastic waste using a machine they built themselves.
The students came from a high school in the West Pasaman regency, in Batar province. They then showed off their success at a talent forum in the Transmart Mall in Padang City on October 5.
One of the inventors named, Dance Dwi Wahyudi said: "The experiment was an attempt to find a solution to increase fuel oil in Indonesia."
"The results of this finding needed 1 year of research, assisted by his supervisor at the school who found a bright spot when he succeeded in creating a plastic waste processing machine into fuel oil."
The system is still being perfected but works by refining the plastics into new biofuel, with a suggested conversion rate of 1kg of fuel yielding 1 litre of fuel.
