Brawl and fire at Indonesian nightclub, 18 people died


One Slashed Dead Two community groups in a city in Indonesia, to be precise in the city of Sorong, West Papua, Monday (24/1/2022) at around 23.30 WIT evening local time were involved in attacking each other with a number of sharp tools. This clash was triggered by revenge from the previous quarrel that occurred on Saturday last week at a Night Club in the city. One of the community groups involved in the clash set fire to a Night Club and burned two cars and damaged a police car. In this incident as many as 18 people died of which 17 people died because they were trapped and burned in the Night Club building which was burned by the mass group. And one person died as a result of being stabbed. The local police were forced to fire warning shots into the air several times to separate the two groups of people involved in clashes. Fully armed police were alerted around the scene of the clashes between the Community Groups to avoid any retaliatory attacks from the two community groups. On Tuesday (1/25/2022) morning, the local police had installed a police line at the location of the Night Club which was set on fire by the community. The police also carried out a crime scene investigation and evacuated seventeen bodies from the scene. Seventeen people who died were employees and guests at the night club. The seventeen bodies were found on the second floor of the Night Club building, burned. All bodies were immediately evacuated to a government-owned hospital for identification. The local police are still investigating the crime scene and investigating the bloody incident. The Papuan Regional Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Tornagogo Sihombing along with a number of police officers visited the scene to take a close look at the condition of the Night Club building which was set on fire by a community group. The General of Police also visited the Government-owned Hospital to see the process of handling corpses by the medics. Inspector General of Police Tornagogo Sihombing said all bodies had been evacuated to a government-owned hospital where all bodies would be examined by the DVI Police Headquarters team which was brought in to reveal the identities of the seventeen bodies. "We have evacuated all the bodies to the Government Hospital. We have ordered the DVI Team from the West Papua Police and the National Police Headquarters which we will immediately bring to Sorong to ensure Antem and postmortem are related to all these bodies. We have to make sure whose family this is "said Inspector General of Police Tornagogo Sihombing to reporters, Tuesday (25/1/2022). According to Tornagogo, the Police have confirmed the total number of bodies that became victims in the clash between two community groups in Sorong city, Monday (24/1/2022). From this incident the number of victims who died amounted to 18 people of which 17 people died as a result of being trapped when the Night Club building caught fire where the seventeen people were trapped in the building on the second floor of the Night Club building. And one other person died when Clash broke out. "All the victims have been confirmed to be 18 people, of which 17 people died when trapped in the burning of the Night Club building and one victim was tortured to death during the fight. We will confirm all the identities of the victims and immediately hand them over to their families." said Inspector General of Police Tornagogo Sihombing.

Meanwhile, after the clash between two community groups on Monday (24/1/2022) last night, the Police continued to be alerted at the scene to avoid any retaliatory actions from both camps. The Police also confirmed that strict action would be taken against all the perpetrators involved in this incident, which resulted in the death of dozens of people.
