Middle school students of an institution in northern India's Uttar Pradesh have manufactured gloves and woolen hats that'll enable Indian soldiers patrolling areas in sub-zero temperatures to remain warm. To make it even more viable, the hats come with a walkie-talkie feature, which will allow the army men to communicate within a certain radius.

The feat has been achieved by four students of Saksham English School in Varanasi town, known for its Lord Shiva temples and beautiful ghats (wharf) along the Ganges. The students are aged between 12 and 13 years.

They have been identified as 13-year-old Aastha Maurya of Class - 8, Riya Srivastava (13) of Class - 7, Apeksha Patel (13) of Class - 7 and 12-year-old Vishwakarma of Class- 6. The students received able guidance from Shyam Chaurasia, their mentor. Chaurasia is an innovator himself and now focuses on helping kids achieve the same.

The students, under the guidance of a teacher, came up with the idea of thermals with heating capacity, to ease the difficulties faced by the armed men at the borders.

Innovators have used a 3.7 volt battery, which can be charged by rotating it with a hand-rotated dynamo charger. There is a button that hits the cap when turned on, which starts to heat up the color plate. A wireless radio has also been installed in this cap, through which the soldiers can communicate with each other in a radius of 50 meters.

The founders of Saksham English, Subina Chopra and Vineet Chopra, said the project was developed in the Kalam Science Innovation Lab of the school, which has been established to nurture young innovative minds.
