This is the scary moment a wild alligator lunged towards a group of tourists in Costa Rica.

The holidaymakers were trekking through the forest when tour guide Margarita spotted the caiman in a cool stream in the Corcovado National Park in Puntarenas province on January 16.

He was recording the 7ft long beast - which reacted angrily to having the phone pointed towards it in its natural habitat.

Footage shows the reptile, a type of alligator, chasing towards the group who quickly scattered backwards to safety.

Margarita said: 'The caiman was just giving us a warning not to get too close. They can be aggressive.'
