Heartwarming footage filmed today (March 6), shows ordinary Ukrainians rolling up their sleeves and joining volunteer activities at a defense checkpoint in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Their volunteering consists mainly in the collection, preparation, and distribution of food.

Among the people who have decided to volunteer for their country, are a graphic designer, a businessman, and a chef who previously worked for a very prestigious restaurant.

Despite the difficult situation in the city, and the advance of the Russian Armed Forces, volunteers seem to be perfectly organised and coordinated.

Books lay on top of vehicles' wheels. A man is cooking potatoes, while two women are making sandwiches, fruit, and vegetables.

An armed soldier stands by a sandbag barricade.

At minute 2.14, a woman named Nastya, who works as a graphic designer, says: "At the beginning, we helped as much as we could. We unpacked plates and glasses. We then signed up to become volunteers, and we were given special badges. We now go to the warehouse for groceries. We help in any way we can".

At minute 2.44, a businessman named Vitaliy who has now joined the armed forces says: "I was doing business. I didn't have any other solution! This is our country, this is our land! My children live here, my seed. Russians told me I am superfluous, no, they are superfluous. I live here and this is the only choice I have, there is no other solution!".

At minute 3.23, Mikola, another volunteer who appears at the beginning of the clip says: "I signed up to become a volunteer. Some people can shoot from machine guns, but I'm a professional chef, so I came here to help my country, and the people with what I can do".

At minute 3.35, a young soldier named Mikhail says: "We are fed very well here". As a joke, he then adds: "The volunteers will kill us because they cook so much! I am very grateful to them because, without them, everything would be very difficult for us. Respect to all the volunteers who are helping the army!".

The footage was filmed in a suburb of Kyiv. The location can't be disclosed due to security reasons.
