Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed a day later that it had struck what it said were military targets in Lviv, Ukraine on Saturday (March 26). alleging it used both long-range and high-precision missiles.

Lviv’s governor and head of the regional military, Maksym Kozytskyy, said on Telegram on Sunday that the fuel depot is “completely destroyed.”

Footage shows the raging fire which broke out at around 4:30 pm but was not put out until the next morning.

The western city near the Polish border has acted as a sanctuary for diplomats, journalists, aid agencies as well as Ukrainians fleeing from the east as it previously had avoided much direct targeting by the Russian invaders.

Lviv police said they had detained two men in relation to the fire, whom they accused of sending information to Russians.
