Two people were injured after a bomber plane in a Texas Air Force Base caught on fire during routine engine maintenance.

The B1-B Lancer at the Dyess Air Force Base was engulfed in flames while it was parked on the tarmac on April 20 evening.

Video taken by airport staff shows the plane enveloped in a huge ball of fire at the air base. Fire crews arrived to extinguish the blaze, while two people who were wounded were taken to a local medical center with non-fatal injuries. They have since been discharged after being treated.

Colonel Joseph Kramer, 7th Bomb Wing commander of the Dyess Air Force Base, said in a statement: 'We are so grateful that all members of Team Dyess involved have been treated and are now safely back at home. Thank you to our first responders who arrived immediately on scene and executed a real-world emergency response with the same level of professionalism and proficiency as they do in training.

'Our B-1 fleet and warfighters remain ready to execute any long-range strike mission.'

The US Air Force's fleet of B-1B Lancers have reportedly been grounded for weeks last year due to issues with the plane's fuel system, online magazine The War Zone reported.
