Trenches of thousands of dead are seen in this harrowing drone footage in Mariupol, Ukraine on May 28, showing a glimpse of one of the deadliest and most fiercely fought areas of the Russian invasion into their southern neighbor.

Oficials estimate "the invaders have buried at least 16,000 Mariupol residents in mass graves near the villages of Stary Krym, Mangush and Vinogradnoye," according to Ukrainian media who provided the footage.

"About 5,000 more people were buried by public utilities until mid-March.
Thousands of bodies still remain under the rubble, in spontaneous cemeteries and in temporary morgues. We actually estimated the number of dead Mariupol residents at 22,000" said the mayor of Mariupol, Vadim Boychenko.
