The "Disinformation Law" -- which was prepared to amend the press law in Turkey and which is defined as the "Censorship Law" by the public -- was protested against with the participation of professional press organizations and many journalists in Istanbul in front of the Şişhane Peace Monument on June 21.

Translation:
[0:31-1:18] Özge Yurttaş, General Secretary of Basın-İş Union:

"We came together so that we can go to work hours from now on, so that we can write articles and publish our news, and that we can continue to pursue our profession. The bill to be voted in the parliament is one of the darkest laws in the history of the republic. This bill brings with it a great threat to the press, journalists, and even all users of social media, namely citizens. A draft law is on the agenda that will judge everyone who uses social media with vague definitions, ambiguous concepts, and some vague definitions such as "such as public interest, such as public security, national security", with the Turkish Penal Code."

Translation:
[1:38 - 2:47] Gökhan Durmuş, Chairman of the Journalists' Union of Turkey:

"Why are we objecting? Because this bill is a bill prepared by politicians by bureaucrats without asking the professional organizations of journalists in Turkey. With this draft law, it is aimed to destroy journalism in Turkey. The last grain of freedom of the press is wanted to be removed. It is intended to deceive journalists with some beautiful expressions they put forward with this draft law. With decorations such as "We will give a press card to those who work in the Internet media", "The ones who work in the Internet media will also receive official announcements", it is intended to hide that the Press Advertisement Agency, like the RTÜK (Radio and Television Supreme Council), has been turned into a censorship and punishment mechanism. With this draft law, the press card, which journalists have difficulty in reaching, turns into a card that will be given entirely by bureaucrats."
