Furious Burmese locals destroy phone mast of company for 'obeying military orders to cut internet'
This is the moment furious Burmese locals destroyed a telecommunications company's phone mast for 'obeying military orders to cut internet'.
Locals were angry with Myanma Posts and Telecommunications after the organisation allegedly followed orders from the junta to stop WiFi.
With no internet for three months, residents toppled the structure in the Sar Lin Kyi township of the Sagaing region, Myanmar on June 19.
They warned the company to restore the internet or they would attack more towers.
The Sagaing region is known to be a strong resistance enclave against military rule in northwestern Myanmar.
The struggle between armed militias and the Burmese military has intensified amid the political turmoil in Myanmar caused by the ousting of former leader Aung San Suu Kyi in February 2021.
Around the country, thousands of civilians are said to have been killed during military crackdowns on protests.
