Buddhist devotees are worshipping a tree trunk with knotted growth shaped like a woman - which they believe is a living GHOST.

Superstitious locals queue in long lines to pay their respects to and pray for good luck from the sacred Bodhi tree, or fig tree, next to a restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand.

Bearing gifts of flowers, jewellery, and even cakes and milkshakes, the visitors honour the barky protrusion, which is seen decorated with a tiara on its 'head.'

Ekkachai Saison, 38, owner of the B-Story Garden Cafe & Restaurant where the holy tree is located, said the likeness of a beautiful woman is believed to be inhabited by a 'goddess spirit' that watches over the small plot of land.

He had previously wanted to cut the Bodhi tree down, but his staff dissuaded him, claiming there was an entity inside its trunk.

Ekkachai said: 'My staff told me a goddess was living inside the tree. They prayed at the tree trunk and even gave food offerings. They told me they won the lottery because of the goddess.

‘One day a psychic medium friend of mine came to the restaurant. She immediately told me that the goddess loves clothes and accessories.'

Ekkachai said the sacred being disliked being referred to as 'the goddess,' but wanted to be addressed as 'pretty sister' instead - a title meant to evoke a sense of youth and familiarity with the locals.

The businessman also claimed that, like the others before him, the benevolent deity granted his wishes after he had prayed to it.

He claims 'pretty sister' favours offerings such as white clothes, white-coloured accessories, and bizarrely, makeup and brand-name designer bags.

Ekkachai said: 'You can pray to my pretty sister through TikTok or Facebook. And if your wishes come true, anybody can come to my restaurant and drop their gifts for the goddess or simply have it couriered to B-Story Garden Cafe & Restaurant address.'
