A resident caught a king cobra hiding under their sofa in the Philippines.

Frances Genzola and her family members were lounging in the living room when she felt something had brushed her feet in Iloilo province on August 5.

The confused house owner did not have pets so she thought there was a rat under her seat but when she checked, she saw a snake crawling underneath.

All her family members fled outside except her father and their neighbour who stayed inside to hunt the venomous creature.

Resident Frances said: ‘It was so scary. I could have been bitten. I was relieved it didn't hurt my family.'

Her father lured the snake out of the sofa with a stick and quickly draped it with a cloth to cover its eyes.

The snake was then dragged out of the house and placed in a sack before wildlife officers came to collect it from the family.

King cobras are venomous snake species that are found in the forests of  Southern and Southeast Asia.
