Residents rode on boats to escape from surging floods in Myanmar.

Footage shows the locals rowing across the fast-flowing currents gushing across the streets in Tachileik Town's Sansain ward on August 13.

The waist-deep water transformed the road into a raging river, reportedly leaving some people trapped inside their houses.

Local media said rescuers were working to deliver food and evacuate stranded villagers via boats.

The area is located near the Mae Sai river, which is believed to have overflowed during the rainy season, inundating both sides of the Thai-Myanmar border.

Myanmar and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November.

Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
