Plane passenger attacks air hostess 'for ordering her to turn off phone'
This is the shocking moment an aeroplane passenger attacked a flight attendant because she was angry at being asked to turn off her phone.
The woman, wearing a light blue top and black trousers, reportedly ignored the cabin crew and then refused to turn off the device, insisting that she could keep it in flight mode
The irate traveller was frogmarched out of her seat to the front of the Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft when the plane landed.
Footage shows how she stood in the doorway and struck a flight attendant at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria.
The attendant can be heard saying: 'She is hitting me. She is f****** hitting me.'
Ground staff and security guards surrounded the passenger, who had put on a white jacket, while she continued throwing a tantrum. She appeared to be struggling with a wig, which had come loose during the chaos.
She was later seen on the tarmac yelling at officials before being escorted onto an airport bus.
Local media reported that the woman erupted in 'runway rage' before take-off on the Ibom Air flight to the capital Lagos from the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo on Sunday, August 10.
The flight continued, but the argument continued when the plane landed. The passenger then attacked the air hostess.
Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), said the confrontation stemmed from the passenger's refusal to follow crew instructions.
He urged travellers to respect cabin crew directives, especially routine safety procedures like switching off mobile devices during takeoff and landing.
Mr Achimugu said: 'When cabin crew ask you to turn off your phone before takeoff or landing, simply comply. I can't understand why simple routine issues would lead to incidents like this. Passengers need to understand they have responsibilities, not just rights.'
Flight rules state that turning off electronic devices during critical phases of flight is necessary because they can interfere with aircraft communication and navigation systems.
The incident came just days after the NCAA banned musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as KWAM1, from flying over alleged misconduct.
