The World Pea-Throwing Championship took place in Lewes in East Sussex, southern England.

The event is held annually at the Lewes Arms pub in the middle of town.

Contestants throw two peas each down the road opposite the pub. The winner is veg-chucking athlete whose pea travels the furthest.

Frozen peas are provided by the pub, but of course they begin to thaw out during the competition, which this year was held in warm and sunny conditions.

The little-known sport's World Championship was established in the 1990s and the world-record throw is over 44 meters (144 ft).
