Heavy rain and strong wind pounded the southern part of South Korea, as typhoon Hinnamnor made landfall in the country early Tuesday morning.

Footage shows powerful squalls blasting through Pohang City in North Gyeongsang before dawn on September 6.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said Hinnamnor touched down near Geoje City at 4:50 am local time, with reports describing it as the 'most powerful' storm to hit South Korea in years.

Warnings have been issued across the southern cities, including Gwangju, Busan, Daegu and Ulsan and Jeju Island as the country braces for torrential rains and winds before Hinnamnor moves towards eastern China later in the week.
