Students and parents are outraged at administrators of North High School in Bakersfield, California, over unconfirmed social media reports of fentanyl overdoses.

Footage filmed on Friday 23 September showed striking students gathered in protest during the sixth period, and a parent loudly complaining to someone who appeared to be a member of school staff.

The school denies that any such incident occurred though has noted an increase in marijuana use amongst students.

Meanwhile in Los Angeles, authorities say that over the last month at least seven teenagers in the LA area have overdosed on pills likely laced with fentanyl, including a 15-year-old girl who died on a school campus.

The most recent overdose occurred Saturday and police are investigating whether those pills are related to the September 13 fatal overdose of Melanie Ramos in a restroom at Bernstein High School in Hollywood.
