Thai cafe has awesome 'natural paddleboarding' pond with giant waterlilies
A Thai cafe has an awesome natural paddle boarding pond that uses giant water lilies.
Malai's Victoria Water Lily Garden lets tourists adventurously balance on the water by standing up on the massive leaves in Nonthaburi province.
Footage shows a holidaymaker curiously observing the plant as it carried her on the body of water.
Each floating leaf can carry a person weighing up to 80kg on a sunny day and up to 45kg when it rained as they tend to become fragile.
Delighted tourist Adisa, seen in the video, said: ‘I got quite scared when I was on the lotus, and I saw water coming in even though the owner already told me ‘you don't have to be scared, because if you are going to fall, someone will tell you to come up,' but still I was nervous. Overall it was a good experience.'
The garden is a miniature natural resort with five individual houses, including tree houses where you can unwind and breathe fresh air for a few nights. There will also be food and drink available.
Because this is a local 'agricultural' tourist attraction, many university students come to learn how to grow the Victoria waterlilies, as do people who want to add a finishing touch to their ponds.
Manager Malai Maneedam, 62, said: 'Our garden was the first in Thailand to let visitors get on to the giant waterlily. They are known as Victoria waterlilies.'
The resort owner added that the Victoria waterlilies are individually grown using the seeds, but their stems are unique.
She said: ‘The stems can be used for cooking lots of menus but one well-known is the Victoria stem salad.
'This is a farm resort where tourists may spend the night. We also have a restaurant and a coffee shop here.'
