A protest march for Afghan women and girls took place in central London, (27 November) standing in solidarity with activists fighting for freedom in the Taliban controlled nation and to call for Western governments to take a more active role pushing for gender equality.

The Afghan diaspora were joined by Iranian demonstrators, whose country has seen intense protests since the death of Mahsa (Jina) Amini in September.

Afghan women face increasing daily limitations under the Taliban, with secondary education being off-limits for girls - but not boys, and the leaving of home without a male chaperone is not permitted.
