China lifts most severe Covid restrictions after protests
China is lifting its most severe Covid policies, including the checking of QR codes indicating a person's health status, testing and isolating in hotels following protests against the strict controls.
Video filmed in the city of Guangzhou in Guangdong Province on December 7 shows subway employees taking down posters for which travellers could scan a QR code.
According to reports, the negative result of the Covid test and the health QR code are not required anymore, except for nursing homes, medical institutions, nurseries, primary schools, secondary schools and some specific places.
Guangzhou Subway issued an announcement that commuters entering the Guangzhou subway network and trams are not required to scan the QR code at the stations or show their health codes anymore. It only asked travellers to take good personal protection and wear a mask during the journey.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
