Gas tank explodes in car after driver lights cigarette while driving
A micro-liquefied gas tank leaked and exploded in a car when the driver lit a cigarette while driving in southern China.
The CCTV footage captured in Xiangtan, Hunan Province, shows the SUV exploding on Dongshan Road. The roof of the car was lifted several metres into the air before it landed.
After an initial investigation, the trunk was seriously damaged and the driver was slightly burnt and hospitalised.
It turned out that the driver put the gas tank on the car without noticing the switch was not tightened and there was gas leakage. The driver then used a lighter to light a cigarette, causing the incident.
The video was filmed on December 16 and provided by local media with permission.
