A factory worker cheated death as an out-of-control pickup truck flipped over and landed just inches from where she had been sitting.

Jindarat Tamtrong, 22, was waiting for a lift to work in front of her apartment building in Rayong, Thailand, when the incident happened on January 4.

She was playing with her phone when she heard the crashing sound and caught a glimpse of the vehicle hurtling towards her.

CCTV footage shows Jindarat in a sitting duck position along the crash path before swiftly standing up to avoid the oncoming vehicle.

She said: 'I usually wait for the taxi in that area, but I moved to that spot because there was a lot of dust.

'I heard the car's braking noise and saw it quickly heading in my direction. I stood up and tried to dodge as far away from it as I can.'

Jindarat was unscathed from the incident while the driver had a minor injury from a signpost and tress his truck crashed into.

Jindarat added: 'I hope drivers will be careful. Take a rest if you are tired and do not drive if you are exhausted. You could hurt yourself and others.'

A bystander Thongdee Patapho, 48, said that she was sweeping in front of her house when the incident happened.

She said: 'I saw two cars moving alongside each other. The pickup truck tried to overtake and slid.'

Thongdee added that there were several accidents on this road as some parts of it were still unfinished.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools, cheap loans for cars, notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws as well as endemic corruption and chronic under-investment in infrastructure hamper the efforts.
