English musician and singer Paul Young slammed for his 'bad karaoke' like performance
English musician and singer Paul Young has been slammed for his “bad karaoke” like performance at a Butlins which led to scores of fans heading for the exit.
The 80s star was accused of being out of tune and out of sync with the music.
One gig goer - who forked out £230 for her ticket - said he killed his own songs.
Former heartthrob Young sung his 1983 number one ‘Wherever I Lay My Hat’. He also performed ‘Senza una donna’ his 1991 hit with Italian blues singer Zucchero and ‘No Parlez’ named after his breakthrough album of the same name.
Kirsty Bamford went to the event with three pals. Boney M, Black Lace and Sonia were also on the bill over the weekend from Friday (20 January) to yesterday (23 January). They spent £230 to see all the acts.
Kirsty, 42, fumed: “There had been some great acts all weekend, and we expected Paul Young to be of the same standard. Especially as he was essentially the last act of the weekend. The centre stage was packed out, Sonia had done a set before him and was really good. Then the DJ played for approximately half an hour. When he first came on I honestly didn’t recognise the song".
She added: “Two songs in and people started filing out. I would honestly say he was killing his own songs, it was like bad karaoke. I’m not sure what the issue was but he sounded like he was out of tune and out of sync with the music. I would say over half the audience left. We left before he finished. It was uncomfortable to listen to. Just a really disappointing way to end the weekend.”
Another fan Nora Dempsey-Joy said: “Why don't they quit while they're ahead.”
Marie Lewis added: “That’s so bad why would he humiliate himself like that.”
Stuart Thomson said: “His backing singers were louder than him.”
