The city of Amsterdam recently opened up a massive new bicycle storage, next to the central station. It is build underneath the waterlevel of a canal and can hold up to 7000 bicycles. Cyclists enter the storage via a specially build moving staircase, that makes it possible to take bicycles downstairs and has a great view of the old historical harbour area. Electronic public transportation cards give entrance to the facility. Amsterdam has an overload of bicycles, blocking the streets of the city centre. Therefore it's building extra storages. This storage takes the place of the temporary floating bicycle 'flat' that was put in place several years ago. A week after opening, the city has started with cutting the locks of, and taking away now illegally parkes bikes in the area.
