‘I found huge venomous spider on my bed – now he’s my PET’.
A girl has revealed how she found a huge venomous spider on her bed – and decided to keep him as a pet.
Jaeden Leves, from Sydney, Australia, noticed a Huntsman spider the same size as her scrunchie had become an unofficial lodger in her home, roaming the halls.
She decided to ignore the creature, until one evening last month she found him on her bed.
Rather than panicking or getting rid of him at the first chance, Jaeden took the rather unconventional route of adopting the beast – even giving him a name, Larry.
Despite the spider’s fearsome reputation and venomous bite, Jaeden insists he’s perfectly loveable.
“I’ve received a lot of comments of people saying how truly terrified they are of him, and how they would burn their house down, some people even claiming that they would’ve killed him,” Jaeden told NeedToKnow.online.
“But most people’s comments are just genuinely sweet and supportive saying how they love Larry, which honestly who wouldn’t love him, he’s literally the sweetest spider.
“I can understand that a lot of people are going to be scared of him which is quite normal, but nobody should have to feel scared of Larry.
“He is the friendliest spider on the planet, he doesn’t want to hurt anybody – he usually just runs away from people if he’s feeling anxious.”
After finding him in the house, Jaeden surprised herself by the decision to adopt him.
She said: “I never had the intention to have a pet spider.
“I would have never expected this to ever happen but looking at how far I’ve come with Larry and how much support we’ve gotten online, I’m definitely not complaining.
“Larry is pretty big compared to some other spiders. I have a hair scrunchie in my room that I’ve put next to him and he was around about the same size.
“He’s very friendly and has such a strong personality, like he’s always running around my house and my bedroom.”
Luckily, the rest of the family have been welcoming too.
Jaeden said: “My mum loves Larry, she thinks he’s the cutest and sometimes lets him hang out in her room.
“My cats have tried to intimidate Larry and jump at him, but he surprisingly stays calm most of the time.”
Jaeden has shared her quirky pet in clips on her TikTok, (@itsjaee7), where one video went viral with over 730,000 views and 40,000 likes.
The clip shows Larry climbing Jaeden’s bedroom wall, revealing his long, hairy legs and big body.
Viewers were torn on the controversial house guest.
User Maja said: “Despite my arachnophobia, I love Larry with my whole heart.”
Someone else added: “You’re being held hostage by a Huntsman spider and are experiencing Stockholm syndrome I’m so sorry.”
User Andrea said: “The way I would move countries if I saw that in my house.”
“Larry increased my arachnophobia,” commented someone else.
“Bro last night I woke up to a Huntsman on my arm AND NOW I SEE THIS,” said another user.
User Storm added: “Time to move.”
“I did stop breathing,” said user Darby.
Despite the terrified users commenting on Larry, Jaeden still cares for him and loves having him as her quirky pet.
