This fairytail-like scene captured a friendly elephant family running through a tranquil village in the dead of night.

Five jumbos, including a baby with its mum, were seen descending from the mountains to search for food in Nakhon Nayok, Thailand on February 22.

They walked in a single file with a mighty bull Plai Nga Diew leading them, followed by the juvenile and its mum, along with the others behind.

Footage shows the creatures hurrying across the concrete road during the peaceful evening.

Jinwimon Mahasup said: ‘The elephants did not damage anything but we had to make sure that they returned to their home before the morning.'

The park ranger added that one of the elephants named Plai Sarika was missing.

He said: ‘We confirmed that the big elephant was left in the mountain and did not go with them. It would be harder with the stubborn bull with them, that's for sure.'

The officers spent about three hours guiding the elephants back to their habitat without leaving any damage.

Thailand has an estimated 2,000 Asian elephants living in the wild where they wander freely among protected forests.

There is sometimes conflict when they come into contact with humans on roads and in villages so wildlife rangers are tasked with monitoring their movements.
