Motorcycle rider dodges loose steel coil rolling from truck
This is the dramatic moment a motorcycle rider dodged a loose steel coil that rolled off a truck in Vietnam.
The female road user was travelling along the Tan Huong ward in Pho Yen City, Thai Nguyen province on March 9 when the heavy object fell from an oncoming tractor truck after its chain was broken.
The coil rolled across the pavement, knocking down and crushing the rider's motorcycle. Luckily, she managed to jump out of the way with seconds to spare.
The woman was not injured, but her motorcycle was damaged. Police arrived and questioned the truck driver, who was ordered to pay for the damage.
The incident is the latest road accident involving steel coils, which are used in manufacturing.
In January, a steel coil broke from its chains and rolled forward, crushing the cabin of a truck in Dong Nai province. A similar incident also happened in Ho Chi Minh City last November, when yet another steel coil was sent flying onto a highway and caused traffic chaos.
Vietnam currently has no mandatory safety standards regarding the transport of steel coils, with drivers arbitrarily securing them through their own methods.
