This is the shocking moment a motorcycle rider was clotheslined by a loose power cable dangling in the road.

Corporal Surachet Chaiyakit was travelling his two-wheeler along Soi Ratchadapisek 68 in Bangkok, Thailand, on April 5 when a truck in front of him hit the low-lying power lines.

One of the wires swung towards Surachet, flinging him like a slingshot off his motorcycle.

He sustained injuries to his chest, wrist, knee, neck, and torso, and was rushed to the hospital while his vehicle was also damaged.

Surachet has urged district authorities to consider placing the wires underground, or hanging them above truck height to prevent similar accidents that could cause fatalities.

The injured soldier said he will file a report with the Bang Sue district office to find the owner of the truck.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools, cheap loans for cars, notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws as well as endemic corruption and chronic under-investment in infrastructure hamper the efforts.
