This is the spectacular moment the sun set on the sea horizon as the moon rose alongside it.

Footage shows the red-orange star appearing to sink into the ocean while a full moon slowly emerged - seemingly like the two celestial bodies were changing shifts.

Tourist Norwin Batralo filmed the jaw-dropping scene late afternoon in Ecuador on April 18.

'Sun and the moon together, beside each other,' Norwin says in the video.

Describing the sight, he added: 'I was sailing in the sea in Ecuador when I spotted both the sun and moon at the same time beside each other.

'It was a very beautiful scene.'

The incredible phenomenon occurred just days before a rare hybrid solar eclipse was seen from the southern Pacific region.
