Dark storm clouds blanketed Bangkok, relieving the city from scorching weather that saw temperatures hit 45 degrees Celsius.

Footage shows the thunderstorm brewing as the skies rumbled, followed by a heavy downpour on Tuesday afternoon April 25.

It came as temperatures soared to 45 degrees Celsius last week during a heat wave across the Asia Pacific region.

Maximiliano Herrera, a climatologist and weather historian, described as the 'worst April heatwave in Asian history'.

The Thai Meteorological Department predicted hot and hazy weather for the city while also forecasting a 60 per cent chance of gusty winds and hail as the rainy season approaches.

The department issued a weather warning from April 23 to 26, as the southerly and southeasterly winds prevail over upper Thailand were expected to strengthen.

Outbreaks of summer storms, accompanied by thunderstorms, gusty winds, hail, and lightning strikes, are expected to affect the northeastern and eastern parts of the country first, before spreading to other regions.
